  • The competitive swim industry relies heavily on high-performance synthetic plastics that can persist in the environment for hundreds of years. While some brands have attempted to address this issue through recycled materials, recycling systems remain inconsistent, inefficient, and often inaccessible to consumers. Competitive swimmers also replace equipment frequently due to wear and performance standards, accelerating the accumulation of plastic waste over time.

This creates an opportunity to rethink how swim gear is designed at a material level, developing products that maintain elite athletic performance while addressing the environmental impact of traditional manufacturing and disposal methods.

  • Swim gear such as caps, goggles, nose plugs, and training accessories are typically produced from petroleum-based plastics engineered for durability, flexibility, and hydrodynamic efficiency. These materials perform well in the water but contribute to long-term environmental waste once discarded. Research into material innovation and circular design revealed that many sustainability solutions in sports equipment focus on recycling rather than addressing the lifecycle of the material itself.

At the same time, competitive swimmers prioritize performance, speed, and precision, often viewing sustainability as secondary if it compromises function. This insight revealed an opportunity to challenge the assumption that sustainability and performance are opposing priorities by integrating environmental responsibility directly into the material science behind athletic equipment.

  • Hydrix introduces a biodegradable performance swim system engineered to deliver elite-level functionality while responsibly reintegrating into natural systems at the end of its lifecycle. By embedding sustainability into the molecular structure of its materials, Hydrix removes reliance on perfect recycling behaviors and instead creates products designed with a complete circular lifecycle in mind.

The brand operates at the intersection of sport, science, and sustainability, offering competitive swim gear, including caps, goggles, nose plugs, chamois towels, and training tubes, that maintain professional-level durability during use while minimizing environmental impact after disposal.
